Why connecting with others is more complex than you thought

Maybe you’ve noticed that you relate better to colleagues who focus more on teamwork and providing support. Or perhaps you’re more comfortable working with those who take a more relaxed approach than those who approach every task with intensity. Maybe, you might relate best to people who are more diplomatic than forceful.

The DISC model is a simple tool that’s been helping people to connect better for over thirty years. Our reports use your assessment data to provide a wealth of information about your behaviour and communication style. Also, you’ll learn how to connect better with colleagues whose priorities and preferences differ from yours.

Discflow is a behavioural assessment and development platform that brings together DISC and Emotional Intelligence in one integrated model. Its report suite and FlowConnect platform give individuals, leaders and teams practical, in-the-moment insight they can act on. Discflow is used by a global network of Official Partners and Master Trainers, supported directly by Discflow HQ.

Introducing the power of Emotional Intelligence to DISC

How do I take this knowledge and apply it in the real world? By combining behaviours and emotional intelligence we have created a tool that is designed to help people have a greater awareness of themselves and others around them.

You can make deliberate choices when interacting to improve communication and create stronger, more engaged and more productive relationships. And the great thing about applying the Discflow model is that while some people have high levels of emotional intelligence as a natural talent, for those that don’t, these skills can be learned and continually improved.

OUR STORY

Why I built DISC Academy

The short answer is that DISC works. The longer answer starts in Germany in the 1990s, runs through Hong Kong, Melbourne and more than a decade of working with leaders and teams, and ends with a decision to build something that goes well beyond what most DISC providers offer.

Where it started

I first encountered DISC as a junior salesperson in Germany. I completed my own profile as part of a sales training day, and something clicked immediately: understanding my own behavioural style and learning to read and adapt to the styles of the people I was selling to made me noticeably better at my job. I did not forget that.

Twenty years later, after building a corporate career across Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Japan, I started a coaching and facilitation practice. The question I kept coming back to was the same one from the 1990s: how do you help someone understand their own behavioural style quickly in a way that actually changes how they show up at work?

In 2015 I completed my DISC Certification. Running DISC Reports was never the goal. Helping people do something genuinely different with the insights was.

Why Discflow

A few years ago, I was introduced to Discflow, a DISC diagnostic platform that had built something genuinely different. Where most DISC tools stop at behavioural style, Discflow combines DISC with Emotional Intelligence in one integrated model. That combination changes the conversation from “here is how you behave” to “here is why, and here is how to adapt.” The reports are progressive, modern and built for practical application.

What DISC Academy is — and why it exists differently

Most DISC providers stop too soon. They certify you, sell you reports and move on.

The work I love most happens after that. Helping a newly certified coach structure their first DISC program. Talking through with an HR leader how to embed DISC across a leadership framework. Designing a workshop that uses behavioural insight to address a real team challenge. These conversations happen every week. And they are why DISC Academy exists.

Whether you are getting certified, building a practice, sourcing reports or looking for expert facilitation, you will not deal with a ticketing system. You will deal with me or someone on my team who knows DISC inside out and genuinely cares about your results.

People insight. Master practice.
