The Organisation
Mike Carney Toyota is one of North Queensland’s leading automotive dealership groups, with a diverse workforce spanning sales, service, administration and leadership. Like many organisations operating across multiple functions and customer-facing teams, the quality of internal communication and cross-functional collaboration had a direct impact on both culture and commercial performance.
The Challenge
Mike Carney Toyota wanted to lift the quality of communication across their organisation — starting with the senior leadership team and working outward. The goal was not just better conversations at the top, but a genuine shift in how people collaborated across levels and functions, with stronger engagement and a culture where behavioural awareness became part of how everyone worked, not just a one-off training initiative.
The Approach
DISC Academy introduced the Discflow DISC and Emotional Intelligence framework, beginning with the senior management team. Starting at leadership level allowed the organisation to build a shared behavioural language where it would have the most immediate influence — in how decisions were made, how teams were led and how communication flowed across the organisation.
Once leaders had experienced the framework firsthand and understood both their own profiles and those of the people around them, the roll-out extended more broadly across the organisation. The Discflow model was integrated not only into team development but also into recruitment and talent management processes, embedding behavioural insight into how the organisation hired, onboarded and developed its people over the longer term.
The Outcome
The impact was felt across multiple dimensions of the business.
The senior leadership team developed a deeper understanding of individual communication styles, leading to more effective and productive interactions across the organisation. Teamwork and collaboration strengthened as leaders learned to recognise and leverage the diverse strengths within their teams, fostering greater trust, innovation and problem-solving capability.
DISC insight was integrated into recruitment and talent management, helping the team identify candidates whose behavioural styles aligned with the organisation’s culture and values — resulting in improved job satisfaction and stronger retention rates.
At leadership level, the programme supported leaders to become more adaptable and self-aware, tailoring their approaches to individual team members and driving higher levels of engagement, motivation and job satisfaction across the organisation.
The result was a measurable shift in how people communicated, collaborated and led — not as a short-term workshop outcome, but as an ongoing change in the organisation’s culture and collective capability.
In their words
“DISC has been a game-changer for our organisation. It has empowered us to build stronger relationships, enhance teamwork, and unlock the full potential of our workforce. The framework’s practical applications in communication, talent management, and leadership have brought about tangible improvements in our overall organisational performance. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any organisation seeking to create a harmonious and productive work environment.”
